Garage Door Repair in San Clemente, CA

Rattling, jerking or landing crooked? Behind most symptoms sits one tired part.

Fixed price before we begin · Live phone 24/7

Garage door repair means putting right whatever stops your door from opening, closing or sealing as it should, whether that is a spring, a cable, a roller, a rail, a hinge, a section or the opener. You need it when the door changes its sound, speed or line, or will not move at all.

Garage door repair in San Clemente usually begins with a change you noticed. Maybe the door got louder, or it now pauses halfway, or one corner sits high. Island Fox treats the door as a full system. We test balance, look over each moving part and then give you a fixed figure for the fix before we start.

Signs You Need Garage Door Repair

  • The door runs louder than it used to, with squeals, pops or a grinding sound.
  • It moves in jerks, pauses half-way or drops fast over the last foot.
  • One side lands before the other, leaving a gap under the bottom seal.
  • A lift cable looks frayed, or a spring shows a gap between its coils.
  • With the opener released, the door feels heavy when you lift it by hand.
  • Daylight shows around the edges, or a section is cracked or bowed.
  • The opener hums but the door barely moves, or it reverses by itself.

How We Repair a Garage Door

  1. Hear the story. On the phone you tell us what changed and when, which points to the likely part before we arrive.
  2. Test the whole door. We release the opener, lift the door by hand to check its balance, then look over springs, cables, drums, rollers, hinges and rails.
  3. Explain and price. You see the worn part, hear what it does and get one fixed figure for the repair.
  4. Repair. Worn parts are replaced, rails are trued and fastened, and the moving parts get the right lubricant.
  5. Prove it. We run several full cycles, test the balance and the safety reverse again, and show you what to watch for.

Where to Go Next

For a snapped spring, read our spring page. A tilted door points to cable service. Noise and shaking often lead to rail and roller work. If the door moves fine by hand but not with the motor, see opener fixes.

Parts, Springs and Door Types

  • Torsion or extension springs. Torsion springs sit on a bar above the door and twist to lift it; extension springs run beside the upper rails and stretch. Both are matched to the weight of the door, and both store enough energy to injure, so they are a job for us.
  • Standard or high-lift track. Most garages use standard track that curves just above the opening. High-lift track climbs further up the wall before it turns, which suits tall ceilings, and it needs its own spring set-up.
  • Steel, wood or composite doors. Steel is light and common. Wood is heavy, needs stronger springs and has to be kept sealed against moisture. Composite and wood-look steel doors give the carriage look with less upkeep.
  • Rollers and hinges. Plain steel rollers are cheap but noisy, while nylon rollers with bearings run quieter. Hinges can crack at the screw holes as the door ages.

Stay Safe Until the Repair

Springs and cables hold the full weight of the door under high tension, so never loosen a bracket, a set screw or a bottom fixing yourself. If a spring has snapped or a cable hangs loose, leave the door where it is, unplug the opener and keep cars, children and pets out of its path. Simple checks are fine: clear the rails, wipe the safety eyes and make sure the side lock bar is not engaged.

Repair the Door or Replace It?

Most doors are worth repairing, because springs, cables, rollers and openers are parts made to be changed. Replacement starts to make sense when several sections are cracked or rusted through, when the maker no longer builds a matching panel, or when the repair figure comes close to the price of a new garage door. We tell you plainly which side of that line your door is on.

What Moves the Final Figure

The starting rates cover a single part on a standard door. The final figure grows with the number of worn parts, the size and weight of the door, the spring type and any bent rail or damaged section found on the visit. A section swap or an opener fix is quoted on site. Nothing is added after you approve the figure unless you ask for more work.

Repair Questions We Hear

My door got louder this year. Is that a problem?

Often it is the first warning. A louder door usually means dry or worn rollers, cracked hinges or a spring that has lost tension, and each one makes the opener work harder. Book a check before something fails; on the visit we test the balance and the hardware. See track and roller repair for the usual fix.

Do you work on wood-look carriage doors?

Yes. Carriage-style sectional doors use the same springs, cables, rails and openers as plain doors, so we repair them the same way. Real wood doors are heavier and may need stronger springs, while wood-look steel or composite doors are lighter. If a carved or windowed section is damaged, see panel replacement.

Is the price fixed before work?

Yes. Island Fox looks the whole door over, tells you which parts are needed and gives you one fixed figure. Work starts only after you agree, and the check-up visit is $0 when you go ahead. Starting rates for each part are on the rate sheet; for a snapped spring, see spring repair.

Can I keep using a door that is acting up?

If it only squeaks, yes, but book a check soon. If it jerks, tilts, slams or makes a bang, stop using it, because a failing spring or cable can drop the door or pull it out of its rails. Leave it closed if you can and call us; emergency garage door repair covers doors stuck open.

Why does my door open by hand but not with the opener?

Then the door itself is probably fine and the fault sits in the opener: a stripped drive gear, a failed circuit board, a loose wire or a safety eye out of line. Check that the unit has power and that the trolley is hooked back onto the door arm. If it still will not move, see garage door opener repair.
